The San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District Board of Directors unanimously approved $2.37 million to support pre-construction work for the Delta Conveyance Project, an initiative led by the California Department of Water Resources. The project aims to strengthen the State Water Project’s delivery system by improving climate, seismic, water supply, and operational resilience.
Approximately 80% of the District’s water is sourced from imported supplies, with local groundwater covering the rest. However, the amount of water delivered each year fluctuates due to varying Delta conditions and environmental constraints, impacting planning and operations for the District’s cities. The District’s participation ensures continued efforts to protect and stabilize the fragile ecosystem of the Delta.
The District previously approved $2.68 million for environmental planning in 2020, with the California Department of Water Resources releasing the final Environmental Impact Report in December 2023. Other State Water Contractors are evaluating their involvement.
